Areas of expertise

Accession and post-accession technical assistance

Our experts have provided technical assistance in support of WTO accession and PTA related efforts, including providing analytical support to the negotiations process, drafting of answers to questions of the Working Party Members, and conducting legal analysis of the draft commitments proposed by Members and proposing changes to the domestic laws and regulations. They have also offered post-accession training and capacity building to prepare the new members for their upcoming membership, including on the submission of notifications, the coordination mechanisms for implementation of accession-specific commitments and participation in the work of the WTO and PTAs. For the Least-developed Countries (LDCs), we guide them on how they can take advantage of their upcoming membership under the WTO’s LDCs and Accessions Programme.

Support to government and producers in Sanitary and Phytosanitary issues and in addressing issues related to Technical barriers to trade

Our experts have two decades of experience in assisting governments in less developed countries in drafting bilateral/regional legal framework, and in ensuring that the SPS regulations and in conformity with the WTO requirements and future commitments being discussed with WTO Members. We provide technical assistance with regards to conformity assessment (accreditation, certification and testing laboratories) covering Sanitary and Phytosanitary issues and well as TBT and help producers and exporters in their compliance with standards and SPS requirements.
