Areas of intellectual property covered:

  • copyright and related rights
  • trademarks including service marks;
  • geographical indications including appellations of origin;
  • industrial designs;
  • patents including the protection of new varieties of plants;
  • the layout-designs of integrated circuits; and
  • Undisclosed information, including trade secrets and test data.
  • The Relationship between TRIPS and the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD)

Course Objectives

  • To understand the types of IP-Rights
  • To understand the WTO rules on trade related intellectual property (introduction to the TRIPs Agreement), features of TRIPS, the basic principles of TRIPS

Audience:

Targeted audience is policymakers/senior government officials, trade researchers, people working for international organisations, NGOs and representatives of the private sector who want to strengthen their understanding of TRIPS policy, and/or who are or may be involved in the design or negotiation of policies related to TRIPS.

Prerequisite:

Internet connection is required as the multimedia lecture and assessment test are run entirely from the course website.  

Grading and certificate

A certificate will be issued to participants upon their completion of the multimedia lecture and course evaluation, as well as their success in the assessment test at the end of the course.
