Compliance of agricultural produce with regulatory requirements (local, regional and overseasmarkets), generally calls for in-depth re-organisation of Africa commodity handling and business practices at firm level. Such re-organisation in particular calls for capacity building of producers, traders, business owners /managers and workers,so that they can meet the requirements of exports markets.

The “Fit-4-Market” programme approach builds on the COLEACP model, to deliver commodity (conformity) support, with the aims to promote growth, the resilience, inclusiveness and sustainability of agriculture commodity value chains in Uganda. Ultimately, our goal is to reduce poverty, improve food security and food safety, and ensure sustainable and inclusive growth by strengthening the competitiveness and sustainability of agriculture and agribusiness sector in Uganda, to implement international sanitary and phytosanitary standards so as to bolster their ability to gain or maintain access to world markets, targeting small and medium enterprises (SMEs), young people, and women, who are frequently the most disadvantaged by the changes taking place in local and global supply chains, and who often have most to gain from improved conditions of production, employment and trade.
